We had an excellent experience staying at the Haymarket. The staff was very friendly and walked us to our building at check in, they also offered fans to cool the room because it was so much hotter than normal. The room was comfortable and the location is far enough from the tourist area to be quiet but close enough that it only took about 15min to get to Edinburgh Castle. There is a train and bus stop within a few min walk and lots of nice cafes and restaurants for dinner. We had a great time but I would not recommend this place to anyone with physical limits as there was no elevator and the stairs are very narrow.

We absolutely loved the Haymarket Hotel! The location is absolutely perfect- away from the busy Royal mile and in a walkable location to all major attractions, as well as right on the transit path to and from the airport and to other city transit as well. There are beautiful coffee shops and restaurants all around, and the area feels extremely safe! Our room was large, spacious and bright! We had absolutely everything we needed in our room, and we were welcomed so warmly in to the hotel. Everything was clean, bright and fresh upon our arrival, and we appreciated the housekeeping making our bed up while we were out during the day as well. We will absolutely be back if we are ever in Edinburgh again!

Overall, pretty nice room (I forgot to check, but there was no AC) in a nice location, with food and drink options nearby. Now the negative: no on-site parking. Street parking only. The nice person who checked us in, told us "turn right, and take the second street to the right after the "big building." I'm looking for a "building" and all I see is this enormous castle, that's about a half a kilometer long. They could have said "castle." That's a little more descriptive. In any case, on that street, that was more than a half mile away from the hotel, free parking started at 530pm (while closer to the hotel was free parking started at 630pm.) While I appreciate the person trying to save us money (it was about 545pm), I really didn't want to park more than a half a mile away, to save a few Pounds... Please don't be cheap with my money. In any case, it's a good location, big room with huge tall ceilings and a comfy bed.

The Haymarket Hotel has good sized rooms, with high ceilings and are very clean. However it seems like the owners have not invested in upkeep over the years. Paintwork is chipped, shower pressure is appalling and the furniture has seen better days. The worst part of the experience and what made the hotel only deserving of two stars, was the quality of the beds. I sank right through my mattress, such was it's age. It meant I had a poor night's sleep and aching hips/shoulders in the morning. I do not think the mattresses have been replaced it years. As the hotel is made up of several buildings, there were also loud bangs as people returned to their rooms through the front door, audible even from the top floor. Whilst we were at the back, friends at the front complained of noise from the cars going over the cobbled streets. Id also imagine rooms on the lower floors would be able to hear the footsteps of those above. The window does not open very well as it's an old building and old sash windows, this makes the room stuffy and hot. A downside of the building itself, but something to be aware of if coming in the summer. The location was also further from the centre than expected in an area of town that whilst not unsafe, did not feel as lively as others. For the price charged and the star rating, this hotel is not worth it. I imagine it has seen better days in the past. But now it's modern competitors will offer you better value for money, and a better night's sleep!

Worst hotel we have been in Scotland. Room was at the last floor( no lift). So extremely hot and humid to faint. Window was locked with no chance to open it. A small fan was provided but it did not help at all. We couldn’t sleep at all at night. To avoid if you are travelling with kids or elderly people
