Our experience at the Haymarket Hotel was perfect. The hotel is really near the City centre and also well connected with trams and buses. We stayed for four nights with breakfast, which I really recommend because the cooked one was amazing and traditional with choices for everyone. The bedroom was at the lower floor of the building, and despite of the many reviews that I have read on this room, I have to say that it was clean, spacious with a huge bathroom, welcoming and with all the comforts (there was also a powerful hairdryer, which is really rare to find). In conclusion, we had a really great experience with our accommodation, for who reviewed this room and wasn’t satisfied with it, I invite you to examine your conscience, because for what you are paying the room and the services are also too high. travel more

Really lovely hotel. The rooms are very cosy and comfortable. Very well presented when entering with all the necessities needed. We were only staying for the one night so we weren't too bothered but the shower in our room wasn't very good and the noise from outside on the streets was very loud but other than that we had a very lovely stay. There is no car park and when we arrived for check in all spaces out front that was pay and display was full we ended up having to park a couple streets over so be mindful and look at pricing we were more in parking costs than we were for all our activities for the 2 days 🙃. Over all a very nice stay would highly recommend for a small trip/couple days. Very close to town and the train station, tram and bus line are only 2 mins away.

A passable stay in Edinburgh, with lovely staff and fantastic transport links - the hotel is just a couple of minutes away from Haymarket train station, tram station, local bus links, and is a flat walk to Princes Street and the city centre. There are also plenty of coffee shops and a Tesco Express in very short walking distance should you want a morning coffee, pastry, or late-night snacks from somewhere in the vicinity. We stayed in a superior double room, though not so sure about the 'superior'. The sound insulation wasn't an issue for us, but could easily have been - you can hear anyone passing in the hallway very clearly, and doors opening and shutting creates a fair bit of noise which might disrupt light sleepers looking for a sleep-in. Our bed was comfortable, but the room could use a bit of TLC. Decor feels dated in a way that suggests things have been gradually replaced or implented over time as needed, rather than with any commitment to an overhaul. Plug sockets are only present on one side of the bed, which isn't a deal breaker, but something I always note in any hotel - if I'm not staying for the luxury of the place, odds are I'm using it as a hub for nearby sightseeing and being able to easily recharge and reset for the following day is a must. The shower was ultimately good but the water pressure and temperature took some time to get right on first use. The bathroom more broadly was clean and very spacious, but absolutely freezing. It was a particularly cold snap when we arrived (even for Edinburgh!) though not for the whole of our trip, but this meant we saw the impact of that cold weather play out. Whilst I'm not blaming anyone for the weather, the bathroom is poorly insulated and apart from the cold (I'm talking barely above 0°C *indoors*) which meant we absolutely needed to make sure the door was closed at all times, the room also became a slip hazard after showers. We don't splash around and even like the open cubicle design on the shower, but shower steam would settle on every surface in the bathroom, immediately becoming very wet, cold, and slippery. Water would pool near the shower entrance too, and whilst one floor towel was provided, this was ultimately soaked through and did nothing for grip either. The bathroom was nicer once the weather picked up, but the slip hazard remained to some extent. The rest of the room was also quite cold during our cold snap, though a plug-in radiator was there to take the edge off, and the bed was very warm. A decent hairdryer was also provided. Overall a convenient hotel for location and putting your head down, and friendly staff. But our room, with its heat and sound insulation setbacks, and dated but passable decor, could use some updating.

We have stayed here several times and have always enjoyed the hotel. The rooms are lovely, the food is excellent and the staff are friendly. This time however, I was unhappy. We were checked in twice and our rooms were swapped around unnecessarily until I was fed up with being taken from one room to another. The staff didn't seem confident and that's disconcerting. The room was OK but we were messed around unnecessarily and it just got silly. The carpets on the stairs were dirty and mouldy in places too. After a good night's sleep in a nice room, we went for breakfast. It took 50 minutes to get our breakfast and I was really annoyed to have to try three times to get someone's attention to take our order. The waiter was looking at his phone! We decided not to eat in for breakfast again. This is really annoying. We're regular customers and we shouldn't have to gamble on whether we will receive good service. I also found that the online services are using really obviously poor English with spelling and composition. The overall feeling is that it just isn't up to scratch. I don't want to stay here again.

I suppose the highest compliment I can give the Haymarket Hotel is that despite suffering 3 nights of awful sleep, I still think it worthy of 3 stars. My wife and I paid £90 p/n for a superior double room, located on the top floor at the rear of the Boisdale building (room 54). The hotel is split across several buildings working their way up from the main road. I’d recommend a room in a building as far up the street as possible and to the rear, as we had total peace and quiet for the whole stay. The hotel exceeded our expectations in many ways. It is very grand and gorgeous and our room was huge! It was clean, equipped with everything we could need, along with some much appreciated complimentary snacks, tea, coffee etc. For the price we paid, I really couldn’t believe the quality of the accommodation……..but then we laid on the bed. Firstly, the bed is 2 x singles fixed together. They share a sheet and duvet but because of their age, it really feels as though you’re sleeping in a separate bed to your partner. The mattresses themselves are completely knackered. You can feel every spring and they are incredible noisy. We both woke up tired after a very bad night’s sleep and with really sore backs. Not what you want when you have 3 days of exploring to do in Edinburgh. We actually came to dread going to bed each evening which was a shame as we were exhausted! If it hadn’t been for the bed, I’d have been singing this hotel’s praises to anyone that would listen and the easiest 5 stars ever given. As it is though, we wouldn’t return. Please replace your mattresses!!
