On the Birmingham Kayak Tour you’ll discover hidden heritage and have plenty of opportunities to see Birmingham’s attractions from a different angle. Birmingham certainly has more canals than Venice but ours are quieter! The tour will head towards the International Convention Centre, The Cube, The Mailbox and to the heart of Britain’s canal system, Gas Street Basin. A great family activity and great way to see the city.
The Bustling Birmingham Kayak Tour takes you into the heart of Britain’s canal system, starting along the route of James Brindley’s first canal into Birmingham that resulted in the industrial revolution booming, or take the Green Escape Kayak Tour, this will take you to the edge of the city, in search of urban green space. It’s a lot closer than you think.
You don’t need any kayaking experience, specialist clothing or equipment, the guides will get you on the water in no time and you’ll be cruising along the city’s watery highway. The tours are around 3-5 miles in total.
Every participant must wear a buoyancy aid, regardless of your swimming ability, so you’ll be safe if you fall in. Tours are led by a professionally qualified British Canoeing Instructors who will give full tuition. All kayaks, paddles and safety equipment are provided. Sit back, paddle and have fun!
This tour won ‘Experience of the Year’ at the West Midlands Tourism Award 2022.
If kayaking is not your thing and you fancy something different, there is also Stand Up Paddleboarding available. The Roundhouse Birmingham offers a range of experiences on Brum’s canals by Kayak or Stand Up Paddleboard, all tours are launched from our home at the grade II* listed building The Roundhouse, another one of Birmingham’s attractions found in the city centre.
The Roundhouse is open to all and FREE to enter, so visit it after the Kayaking Tours and learn more about the history of the Roundhouse in the Visitor Centre, check out their latest exhibitions, book onto the building tour, or just come for a bit of peace and quiet.
