At Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens you’ll visit an 18th Century Formal Gardens and Local Nature Reserve Parkland (Grade2*). This attraction is easily reaches from Birmingham and is a great day out for all the family.

Experience 10 acres of a unique survival of 350 year old early 18th century formal garden design. The walled garden, once part of the Earl of Bradford’s estate, rescued, nurtured and owned by an independent Charitable Trust. A further 30 acres of the former estate’s historic Parkland, now a Local Nature Reserve, encircles the formal garden. Keeping largely to a period-relevant style with plant species and heritage fruit from 1680-1760 it’s like visiting the Baroque countryside in the middle of a 21st century city.

If you’re looking for some family fun and things to do with the children, from craft and nature based activities for children, to blossom picnics and outdoor music and theatre, there is always something happening in the Gardens.

Find our outdoor Courtyard Cafe, which is free to visit, buy homemade cakes and locally made savouries and snacks.

Parking is free and there are disabled parking bays close to the entrance gates. There is level access to the courtyard café. The grounds are either lawn or gravel paths – some on a slope. Wheelchairs are available to use.

First time visiting with 2 kids. Nicely filled 2 hours and could have stayed longer. Not a particularly big site but lots of little areas of interest for kids and plenty of shade. Flowers looked a little tired from the hot dry spell we have experienced. Cafe was reasonably priced, although be warned, tea is by the mug (not pot) and gets made up for you. Would definitely come here again if we lived a little closer.

We visited last week as a family of 6 and it cost us just over £20 for 2 adults and 3 children, under 5's free. Most national trusts offer a discounted family pass, perhaps this could be introduced to make it more affordable. The gardens are beautiful and very well kept, historic buildings have a lot of interesting information, volunteers are friendly and approachable and doing a fab job at maintaining the place. I would say it's a hidden gem in the middle of Castle Bromwich. My children loved the play areas and the archery lawn was perfect for them to run up and down on.

Nice place. There was a wedding fayre so got to see the place as it would be for a wedding. Very very nice. Had a nice walk in the gardens, which is around £6 to enter.

Garden must have been fantastic in it's heyday but looking rather sad now, not helped by the very dry weather. Some interesting features but the plants were nothing special and I assumed they just don't have enough volunteers or funding to do it as well as it deserves.
