City Gate Guest House

Me and my partner stayed for 2 nights on a business trip. We had a studio. The room was big and clean. Only we found some hairs in the bed on the day of arrival. But we could clean that fast and things like that can happen. The bathroom was perfect. Ali was an amazing host. I showed up an hour before the actual incheck time. Ali let me check in early without paying the early check in fee. Amazing hospitality! Easy check in and easy check out. I would highly recommend this place. In the night it is very quiet and calm, so you have a good night rest. It is close to the tubes and bus stops. Maybe it is not the most beautiful location for the hotel, but still how the hotel is makes up for all of that! All of all it was a really nice stay and i would come back for another stay.

Stayed here for two nights, had a wonderful stay. It's about a 10 minute walk to either of the closest Tube stations, which is very convenient. The staff were absolutely lovely, and walked us through everything very quickly. The bathroom being shared is a slight downside for me, but it's not like I went in not knowing this. Despite that, the bathroom itself is very clean and the rooms are very clean also. The area that this building is in doesn't seem the safest, and that's no fault of the building itself, but the walk from the tube at night was a little uneasy. There are a few shops very close by, one of which is only across the road, which is super convenient. Overall I had a great stay and I would definitely recommend this for travel on a budget.

The true face of any place is defined by its people, and at City Gate Guest House this couldn’t be more true. I wholeheartedly recommend this guest house to anyone who wants to experience exceptional customer service. Ali, in particular, made my stay truly magnificent—his friendly attitude, eagerness to help, and professionalism are unmatched. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered hospitality quite like this before. Ali is the shining star of this place—top-class hospitality! 👑😎

This hotel is lovely and clean with great transport links, the tube and buses and just around the corner. We stayed in a room with a shared bathroom which was kept very clean. The lovely host Ali helped us to get a room sorted for a extra night which was an ensuite and also very clean. The staff are very considerate and allowed us to check into the new room right away so we could enjoy a tea/coffee or sleep if we needed to. Would recommend to others as it is a good price as well!

The staff at the front desk was friendly, but that’s about the only good thing I can say. The photos online are complete and utter lies — the place looks NOTHING like them. In reality, it’s tiny, run-down, dirty, and falling apart. The WiFi was basically unusable (slow, unstable, constantly dropping), making it impossible to get any work done. The listing called it an “apartment,” but it was really just a hallway with two bedrooms and a bathroom, no real common space, and a bunch of locked “staff only” doors. Beds were uncomfortable, and the overall condition was much worse than advertised. On top of that, the area is loud and makes it really hard to sleep. You’re stuck choosing between sweating with the windows closed or leaving them open and being kept up all night by street noise — since the windows are the only way to cool the place down in summer. To make matters worse, after we checked in they even added new “rules,” like threatening extra charges if we arrived after 7 PM. When we asked for a refund for the unused nights, they refused to work with us at all. Straight-up scam behavior. If you’re a digital nomad, remote worker, or honestly just someone who expects a place to look like the photos and not be a nightmare to sleep in — avoid this place.
