A British restaurant in the heart of London. Francatelli is located in the St James’s Hotel and Club in Mayfair, a stones throw away from London’s top attractions.

Inspired by one of William Drabble’s favourite historical Chef’s, Charles Elme Francatelli, who in the early 1800s was ‘Chief chef of St. James’ Club’. Francatelli was a celebrity chef of his day, who left St James Club to be Queen Victoria’s chief chef, and authored a cookbook ‘The Modern Cook’ in 1846 that will inspire the menu of Francatelli’s at St James Hotel & Club in 2024. The menu will be rooted in simplicity and British produce punctuated with some show stopping dishes.

The restaurant celebrates the richness of Britain, as renowned chef William Drabble partners up with local suppliers, echoing the culinary legacy of Charles Elmé Francatelli. Inspired by the chef’s iconic 1846 cookbook, the restaurant at St. James’s Hotel & Club unveils modern interpretations of 19th-century dishes.

A beautiful, well-run property with exceptional service and elegant rooms. The staff were warm and attentive, and the location is perfect for exploring the city. A truly comfortable and memorable stay—I highly recommend it!

Perfect British luxury boutique hotel. To be greeted by name on arrival, and this was my first stay..what a way to start! Nothing was too much trouble. Great local knowledge and the hotel has a couple of secret short cuts that make it pretty cool. Perfect location. The rooms are not huge, but you are in London. We were upgraded to a deluxe room, and this made it much better. Great bathroom. The bed was heavenly, perfect!!

For a detailed video review of my stay, kindly visit my YouTube channel, Truly Excellent Hotels & More, and subscribe to my channel for further reviews of Truly Excellent Hotels & More around the globe. Steeped in history, the St. James's Hotel & Club in Mayfair has long been a beacon of luxury and sophistication. Dating back to 1857, this distinguished establishment has served as a sanctuary for the elite, including diplomats and aristocrats. Today, it is under the management of Althoff Hotels, a group renowned for its high standards in hospitality. As part of "The Leading Hotels of the World," St. James's upholds its reputation for exceptional service and elegance. During my stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing the Executive Room with Balcony, a space that seamlessly blends contemporary comfort with timeless charm. Spanning 28 square meters, the room features bespoke furniture, a spacious king-size bed with Hypnos mattresses for unparalleled sleeping comfort, and a private balcony offering serene views of Mayfair. The room is thoughtfully equipped with modern amenities, including a minibar, a tea and coffee machine, and an LCD television. The bathroom, adorned with polished stone, is stocked with exquisite Penhaligon's toiletries, adding a touch of indulgence to the stay. Evening turndown service and access to over 700 digital newspapers and magazines further elevate the experience. The continental breakfast selection was a delightful start to each day, offering a variety of high-quality options that catered to diverse tastes. Dining at the Francatelli Restaurant was another highlight, where the attentive service and expertly crafted dégustation menu, showcasing British flavors, left a lasting impression. However, not everything was seamless. The air conditioning in our room was nonfunctional, leaving the space rather chilly for the first two days. While the staff kindly provided a radiator to address the issue, such occurrences seem to be a recurring theme in many Althoff-managed hotels, where some hardware shows its age. Despite this minor setback, the hotel's location on a quiet side street in Mayfair offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city—a true gem for anyone seeking refinement and peace. Overall, St. James's Hotel & Club is an excellent choice for those looking to immerse themselves in history, luxury, and exquisite British hospitality. A recommendation for those wanting to step away from the hustle and bustle of London.

We stayed here many years ago and loved it so when it turned out we were visiting this area of London again, it was my 1st choice. Some restructuring and brand alteration has happened since, the reason I'm unaware of. Booked an Executive room, noted some 4 posters and Jacuzzi, but missed the word 'Some' in front of jacuzzi. I thought it would be one or other, but we had neither and there was nothing stand out about the room, so it felt like you were paying the extra for the grade and not getting anything extra for it, not a good start. I don't like being duped and this felt like misselling with clever wording to get away with it. They should be different grade rooms and it should only list what is in that room. The room was ground floor, in good decorative order and ok size. The bathroom had a small bath and shower, slightly awkward squeeze to get in and a step, so if infirm in any way, not ideal if using the shower. Bathroom was cramped. All was nicely finished and clean with robes and plush slippers. Toiletries supplied and turned down in the evening. Tea & coffee, no biscuits, but they could be purchased from the minibar. Service was excellent, bar the booking notes being completely ignored, dissapointing! Bar service was hit and miss. Milk for the room (ignored note), I got personally and was fetched pronto. 2 evening cocktails, 2 bar tenders attempted to rustle up, equipment not working properly and I think one was just having a bad day, eventual result was perfect, bill was about £20 each, it wasn't itemised. Husbands mistake as he declined a receipt at the bar. Loved the doorman, so nice to be welcomed back and have pictures taken. Thank you. I'd still recommend this hotel as it's lovely and quiet and great location. You know it's great when you have to describe it to Taxis. It has a sumptuous cosy feel which feels safe in a big bustling city. But it doesn't have a roof garden, which brings me to the advice I'd share. Don't be mislead or assume, if something is important to you, confirm it with the property. Ensure ample time on check out, we weren't in a rush but had to wait, I've no idea why.

Great Location! We were in a downstairs suite 102 which felt a little confining even though it was a suite. Definitely tired and in need of a refresh. This particular room had the exhaust fan from the kitchen right outside the bedroom window which was noisy. They turned it off for awhile, but it was back on and noisy when waking up in the am. The bathroom fixtures were old and needed some TLC. Staff was very friendly. Dining room staff was obnoxious and arrogant. Always trying to look busy except for helping the guests? English breakfast was tasteless and boring. Stick with the continental breakfast.
