The Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum is a breathtaking destination that showcases the beauty of nature in its purest form. As you step into the garden, you are greeted by a mesmerising display of vibrant flowers, towering trees, and lush greenery. The air is filled with the sweet aroma of blooming flowers, and the gentle rustling of leaves creates a tranquil atmosphere.

The oldest botanic garden in the UK, and home to over 5,000 different plant species, each carefully curated to create a harmonious and educational experience. As you wander through the arboretum, you encounter majestic oak trees, towering redwoods, and delicate cherry blossoms, creating a captivating juxtaposition of size and colour.

Bluebell Wood is a mature oak woodland, where the remains of some ancient specimens have been left to decay naturally, creating a rich environment. It is estimated that a mature oak tree is home to nearly 300 different species of animals; for instance, worms and caterpillars live on the tree and they are eaten by badgers, foxes and birds. Visitors can enjoy a living carpet of native English bluebells between late April and mid-May. In the lighter and airier Lime Wood, you will find some of the tallest limes in the UK.

Visitors can explore themed gardens that showcase plants from specific regions or habitats, providing a fascinating journey through different ecological landscapes. The medicinal garden offers insight into the healing properties of various plants, while the water garden is a serene oasis teeming with aquatic life.

Whether you are a botany enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, the Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum offers an enriching experience that celebrates the wonder of the natural world.

Great visit, and despite a very dry spring and summer, the gardens were looking good. We've been a few times, and always enjoy it. Some nice shade on a hot day. The greenhouses are always fascinating.

This exceptional garden offers a rich and diverse collection of flowers and trees from all over the world, making it a truly global botanical experience. It’s a rare opportunity to see, up close, many of the plants we commonly consume, such as spices, fruits, and teas in their natural form and habitat. Winding pathways lead you through dense, vibrant forest sections, creating a serene and immersive walking experience that blends education with relaxation. Perfect for nature lovers, families, or anyone looking to connect more deeply with the natural world.

No wait and not too crowded, which made for a peaceful stroll through the botanical garden. Lots of fascinating plants to look at—even ones we usually only see in pots at home (many of which I’ve personally managed to kill, oops). Our 4-year-old had a great time spotting bugs and learning where things like bananas, sugar, coffee, and cocoa come from. There were plenty of benches to relax on, and it was surprisingly engaging for both adults and kids. A nice calm break from the bustle elsewhere. Not as touristy as other places we’ve been

Oxford Botanical Garden was stunning. We visited end of May and blooms everywhere. My favorite are the roses. But everything is gorgeous. Also the staff there was so helpful. I left my wallet at the gift shop and they found it and kept it for me. I am very thankful. This is must see, We make an effort to visit tjus garden when in Oxford. And end of May was the perfect time for blooms.

Had a lovely time wondering around the gardens! Gorgeous array of flowers and plants, beautiful in the sunshine. Lovely place to go, take a book and relax, as many people were! Felt the price is quite high for how small the garden is, we went round quite quickly. Next time we visit Oxford, we'd definitely bring a book! Went here to visit Lyras bench - fans of the author Philip Pullman will know, found that they'd had a statue installed behind the bench to commemorate his books, lovely touch!
