A French restaurant in the heart of Oxford city centre. They opened Pierre Victoire in 1996 and wanted to create somewhere for people to enjoy traditional French food, cooked properly by skilled chefs, in an informal environment at prices everyone can afford – the way they do in France. And they are still open and doing that even during these difficult times.

Their menus follow the seasons and the ingredients they use are fresh and sourced as locally as possible. When the menus change everyone gets involved and has their say – not just the chefs and the restaurant team, but the customers, too!

There is a long list of ‘signature’ dishes such as Chicken Liver Parfait, Moules Marinières, Escargot, Fondue Savoyarde, Duck Confit, Bouillabaisse, Onglet à l’Echalotes, Tartiflette, Crème Brûlée, Ile Flottante and Chocolate Fondue. They are some of the customers’ favourites, and you’d be unlucky not to find many of them on the menu when you visit them.

For years Pierre Victoire has been Oxford’s busiest and best-loved truly independent restaurant, and have earned a reputation that they are proud of. No 1 on review sites like Trip Advisor, and voted the winner of the inaugural Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards, Public Vote.

These accolades are a tribute to their dedicated team, many of whom have been with them for years, who take a great pride in what they do, whether they are cooking the food, or serving it.

Customer favourites are the Prix Fixe lunches and Prix Fixe dinners. They love the wines, many of which are sourced by SH Jones of Banbury Wines, exclusively to them, from small, independent growers. They love the rustic charm of the simple wooden furniture, fresh flowers and candles. They love being able to see into the kitchen and say ‘hello’ to the chefs. And they love the staff and service they give, which is usually informal, but always knowledgeable and friendly.

From a romantic candle-lit dinner for two, to a graduation party for fifty, Pierre Victoire is perfect for any occasion – but it’s always best to book, so please call or drop by and reserve your table.

Finally I was able to book a table and enjoyed a wonderful brunch with my bestie. And I just realized that online booking access is open on their instagram page!! Truly, highly recommend it to y’all. Their chicken liver is very tasty, like melting in the mouth. Love it!

Lovely little French restaurant, it’s £36.50 for a 3 course meal and the portions are generous. I’ve never fully completed a meal and this is my second time back here. I recommend the mussels they are a huge portion and very tasty!

We arrived right on time at 12:00 noon, and the restaurant was completely full within 45 minutes. We ordered one two-course and one three-course lunch set. For the starters, we had calamari and French onion soup. The calamari was tender, and the soup was well-seasoned and perfectly balanced with the crispy bread. For the main courses, we had slow-braised duck leg and fresh mussels. As the menu stated, the mussels were incredibly fresh and creamy. They really whetted our appetites, and we couldn’t stop eating! The duck leg was tender and flavorful. The most amazing part was the rösti underneath, which absorbed the orange sauce and made the dish even more incredible. The chocolate mousse was the perfect ending to our lunch. The staff are polite and efficient. An excellent experience for our Oxford trip! Thank you!

Nice restaurant. Overall the food is are good and with good price. Most people ordered the steak. The steak is nice except the fries. The fries are not fresh. Sitting at second floor is a good idea as the window is opened and with better ventilation. Also, quiet. You can enjoy your meal there.

A lovely French restaurant that was great value for money! The starter (gravadlax au saumon et crabe) and the main (suprême de poulet) were very tasty and well done. The presentation of all the dishes was great, and it was a very nice intimate atmosphere to dine in. The waiters and waitresses were lovely and service was very fast. What disappointed me was the chocolate fondue. It was very runny and bitter but not rich like a dark chocolate at all, it reminded me of a bottle of chocolate sauce that had been heated up. The crême brûlée (not pictured) was fantastic though so I recommend opting for that instead. My biggest problem though was that there was a mix up with our reservation through no fault of our own, and the hostess was rude and not accommodating at all (despite there being an available table). At first she told us to go home and I had to argue that we had made a reservation that had been confirmed, so if it’s not on the system it’s not our fault. She eventually found us a table, it was 5.30 and it had to be returned by 8 for another guest. She could’ve said “I can squeeze you in here but I need the table back by 8 if that’s okay?” but instead she turned to the waiter she handed us over to and said “Make sure they are out of here by 8.” This made us feel very unwelcome and was an awful start to the visit. Fortunately, it did not cloud the rest of our experience and I would still recommend that you come here, but it is why I have left a 4* rating rather than 5.
