A magical attraction located in the picturesque town of Stratford-upon-Avon, best known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Since opening its doors in 1985, the Butterfly Farm has become a cherished destination for nature enthusiasts and families seeking to explore the enchanting world of butterflies. Just 30 miles from Birmingham, this is a great family day out and well worth travelling to.
As visitors step into the large, carefully controlled environment of the glasshouse, they are instantly transported into a tropical paradise, teeming with the vibrant colours and delicate movements of thousands of the world’s most beautiful butterflies. These graceful creatures, sourced from butterfly farms across three continents, flutter freely among the lush foliage and cascading waterfalls, offering a truly immersive experience.
Butterfly species range from the striking blue morpho with its iridescent wings to the elegant glasswing with its translucent panels. Each visitor has the opportunity to witness the full life cycle of these insects, with educational areas displaying caterpillars and chrysalises at various stages of development. The farm plays a significant role in the conservation of these species, educating the public about the importance of protecting their natural habitats.
Beyond butterflies, the farm also houses a collection of other fascinating insects and arachnids in Minibeast Metropolis. You’ll come face-to-face with beetles, stick insects, and even the world’s largest spider species, offering a spine-tingling encounter with some of nature’s most incredible invertebrates.
In the Rainforest Realm you’ll see creatures from South and Central America such as Spectacled Caiman, giant chameleons and river turtles.
The Discovery Zone provides an interactive learning experience, where visitors can partake in hands-on activities and watch informative presentations about the ecological significance of these critters.
Stratford Butterfly Farm not only captivates with its biodiversity but also educates, promotes conservation, and offers a peaceful retreat. The climate-controlled environment ensures year-round enjoyment, making it a must-visit for anyone drawn to the beauty and wonder of the natural world.
