A magical attraction located in the picturesque town of Stratford-upon-Avon, best known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Since opening its doors in 1985, the Butterfly Farm has become a cherished destination for nature enthusiasts and families seeking to explore the enchanting world of butterflies. Just 30 miles from Birmingham, this is a great family day out and well worth travelling to.

As visitors step into the large, carefully controlled environment of the glasshouse, they are instantly transported into a tropical paradise, teeming with the vibrant colours and delicate movements of thousands of the world’s most beautiful butterflies. These graceful creatures, sourced from butterfly farms across three continents, flutter freely among the lush foliage and cascading waterfalls, offering a truly immersive experience.

Butterfly species range from the striking blue morpho with its iridescent wings to the elegant glasswing with its translucent panels. Each visitor has the opportunity to witness the full life cycle of these insects, with educational areas displaying caterpillars and chrysalises at various stages of development. The farm plays a significant role in the conservation of these species, educating the public about the importance of protecting their natural habitats.

Beyond butterflies, the farm also houses a collection of other fascinating insects and arachnids in Minibeast Metropolis. You’ll come face-to-face with beetles, stick insects, and even the world’s largest spider species, offering a spine-tingling encounter with some of nature’s most incredible invertebrates.

In the Rainforest Realm you’ll see creatures from South and Central America such as Spectacled Caiman, giant chameleons and river turtles.

The Discovery Zone provides an interactive learning experience, where visitors can partake in hands-on activities and watch informative presentations about the ecological significance of these critters.

Stratford Butterfly Farm not only captivates with its biodiversity but also educates, promotes conservation, and offers a peaceful retreat. The climate-controlled environment ensures year-round enjoyment, making it a must-visit for anyone drawn to the beauty and wonder of the natural world.

We loved this! It was very well organised with welcoming staff. The first time we went around we enjoyed the many varieties of butterflies, the fascinating leaf cutting ant exhibit, and the koi pond. We then started to look around again (and we're glad we did ) as there were many birds which we did not see on the first loop and also Bennie the iguana. Unfortunately, this time we couldn't find prudence (maybe next time). We definitely recommend going around at least twice as you miss things the first time. There are lots of benches throughout the exhibit where you can relax and watch the butterflys. There was plenty of space, if did not feel overcrowded at all which must come down to the time entry organisation. Nice shop afterwards with reasonable prices. The toilets are clean. There is parking close by which wasn't too expensive, £4.50 I think for the 2 hours. Well worth the ticket money. We spent around 1.5 hours at the butterfly farm in total but you could spend a lot longer there if you really slow down and do a few laps.

I was really impressed with how good this was. An extremely pleasant couple of hours ( if you don't rush) just walking through the extended glasshouse and watching a fantastically diverse range of butterflies. There must have been hundreds, all within camera shot, showing of their beautiful colours and markings. Add to that the mimibeast section, again really well displayed and interesting exhibits. It was a rainy day so pretty busy but there was no sense of being too crowded. Informative displays about life cycles and caterpillar survival strategies. The best butterfly farm I've visited by far.

This was the best butterfly farm I have visited in my life and I highly recommend to everyone else because the way they have presented the butterfly Home is so natural elegant and tranquil. It is quite a large space to walk around and explore the butterflies that are very active around you. There are great information boards about the life of butterfly. I can see them step-by-step in person which is very helpful. The staff are very helpful and professional it has a good size gift shop and toilets. The outside is decorated nicely as well. I love the Maya sculptures scattered around too. They also have a nice collection of insects and a few tropical birds. Their plants are very well maintained and create this beautiful landscape. Well done to the creators and the staff.

Took myself and my two kids (2 and 4 months) for a walk around, took us about an hour. But depending on how engaged your child is you could easily spend the full 90 minutes your ticket allows for there. Prices were fair I'd say, especially seeing as kids under 3 go free, I was impressed to see they had set the age limit at 3 instead of 2 like most places. Lots of fantastic species of butterflies as well as other insects and tropical animals (some small birds are allowed to roam free so just keep that in mind if birds aren't your thing). Some beautiful flora also but a bit of a shame that there wasn't much info on the different plants that you could see and their significance to different species of butterfly. Parking is pretty straight forward but is provided by a couple of play and display type car parks next to the farm itself. Disabled parking is available on site I believe. All in all a lovely time.

Overall, a fantastic experience- not as big as I was hoping (I’ve been to much bigger ones in France) - a bit disappointing size wise- but very well maintained. I was imagining an actual biosphere, but it’s medium in size with a central area that has a koi carp pond and a mini beast area too- with lizards, snakes and reptiles. The gift shop is great and the variety of butterflies is really good… Parking is ample but not free. Really nice day out- drive 2 hours to get there but was worth it.
