EXHIBITION

The Tate Modern’s new exhibit is, Capturing the Moment which will be on until the 28th April 2024.

The arrival of photography changed the course of painting forever. In this unique exhibition, we explore the dynamic relationship between the two mediums through some of the most iconic artworks of recent times.

From the expressive paintings of Pablo Picasso and Paula Rego, to striking photographs by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Jeff Wall, you will see how these two distinct mediums have shaped each other over time.

You will also discover how artists have blurred the boundaries between painting and photography, creating new and exciting forms of art, such as Pauline Boty’s pop paintings, Andy Warhol’s silkscreen prints, the photorealist works of Gerhard Richter, or Andreas Gursky’s large-scale panoramic photographs.

In an open-ended conversation between some of the greatest painters and photographers of the modern era, we explore how the brush and the lens have been used to capture moments in time.

So if you are looking for things to do in London, and avoid the hustle and bustle then come visit the Tate Modern for some art and culture respite.

This London attraction has free entry for everyone.

For visitors who need accessible car parking, there are twelve parking spaces for disabled visitors, accessed via Park Street. Please book these spaces at least 24 hours in advance. The Tate Modern combines contemporary art with a unique riverside setting and a layout that encourages exploration. Many areas of the museum are free to access, making it easy to move between the Turbine Hall, the upper floors and several gallery spaces, while selected exhibitions require a ticket. The mix creates a flexible and welcoming atmosphere for different types of visits. During the day the museum is lively, with several school groups and guided tours contributing to the rhythm of the space. Despite the activity, circulation remains smooth thanks to wide corridors, clear signage and multiple viewpoints that allow visitors to pause and observe. The terrace offers an impressive panorama over the Thames, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London skyline, adding a memorable element to the experience. The combination of architecture, public areas and changing installations makes the Tate Modern one of London’s most rewarding cultural stops.

An artist friend and I visited the Tate Modern, to see the bold new exhibition of Nigerian art. A brief visit so far, and exhilarating to see, and learn about the different artistic styles, and discover places with so many stories. There's a well-known saying: "Travel broadens the mind". But boy, this art exhibition will blow your mind. We plan to return in a few days, and bring two more friends! I cannot recommend this showcase enough, apart from to say: go then share what you think. For me, it is an homage to a part of the world, where creativity is rich and varied - art, fashion, music, and literature. It is a delight to witness this historic event in London, and share the experience with so many people - young and old, Londoners, visitors, and tourists alike - across all diversity. Previous visitors told me to allow 2 hours. I agree - at least 2, as you'll probably want to take your time to view over 250 works, spread over 4 or so rooms. I look forward to returning more than a couple of times - before it closes in May 2026.

Got to love the Tate Modern. Such an iconic space. Whether you like modern art or not will define how long you spend in the galleries but there’s lots of different and interesting things on. Some interactive. It’s worth it just for the iconic architecture… and there is always the interesting cafes sprinkled about the buildings.

A lot of great pieces of art on display. You'll need the whole day to appteciate the art and get around to all the sections. Plenty of artistic activities for children to do whilst there. Space to stop and draw the art. If you want to have food whilst there, I suggest buying at the cafe early as the food gets sold out really quickly. However, there are plenty of restaurants around the area (opposite the museum) if you need food before heading back home or going back into the art museum. A great day, good for kids.

Overall liked the exhibitions, loved some rooms, disliked others 😂 Although I am not really a fan of modern art, I spent around 4 hours there. I liked most of the themes they chose and appreciated the descriptions of the artworks and artists as it helps to understand what they express, sometimes in very abstract ways. Some modern artist celebrities were underrepresented in the Tate Modern in my opinion, but thankfully they can be seen in other museums in London 😜 I was a bit surprised by certain rooms that had a lot of nudity or sexual aspects, especially because there were many young children with their families around … Concerning the Do Ho Suh temporary exhibition, I’m happy I got a discounted ticket, because the original price was too steep for what I saw, but it was a quick fun expo.
