EXHIBITION

The Tate Modern’s new exhibit is, Capturing the Moment which will be on until the 28th April 2024.

The arrival of photography changed the course of painting forever. In this unique exhibition, we explore the dynamic relationship between the two mediums through some of the most iconic artworks of recent times.

From the expressive paintings of Pablo Picasso and Paula Rego, to striking photographs by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Jeff Wall, you will see how these two distinct mediums have shaped each other over time.

You will also discover how artists have blurred the boundaries between painting and photography, creating new and exciting forms of art, such as Pauline Boty’s pop paintings, Andy Warhol’s silkscreen prints, the photorealist works of Gerhard Richter, or Andreas Gursky’s large-scale panoramic photographs.

In an open-ended conversation between some of the greatest painters and photographers of the modern era, we explore how the brush and the lens have been used to capture moments in time.

So if you are looking for things to do in London, and avoid the hustle and bustle then come visit the Tate Modern for some art and culture respite.

This London attraction has free entry for everyone.

For visitors who need accessible car parking, there are twelve parking spaces for disabled visitors, accessed via Park Street. Please book these spaces at least 24 hours in advance. There is also scooter and walker hire available, with all floors accessible via lifts and ramps. If there anything else you need to know then please get in contact before your visit.

Free!! Very cool place. Kids were a bit confused. 'Why is there a lobster on a phone?' - my reply? 'Art, apparently'. You'll find a lot of that sort of thing here. Some exhibits were very cool. The 10th floor view is amazing, worth it just for that! Cafe up there shuts at 4.30pm tho. Often street performers outside here too. Again, free to watch (if you have no soul). Enjoy!

This is one of the free art galleries to explore in London. I have visited a few times, and I commend the management team for welcoming visitors from all faiths. They have a dedicated prayer room, so if you are Muslim and visiting this place, don’t forget to take the time for your prayers. To find the prayer room, take the lift to level 4. Once you exit the lift, turn left, then head to the right. As you enter the second room, you will see a sign on the door indicating that it is a multi-faith space.

I do love an art museum, but I'm no huge fan of modern art. That said, for people like me, there is plenty to see that is done by commonly known artists to enjoy and appreciate. Of course, there is so much more to be exposed to and try to challenge you on how to better appreciate modern art -- again for those with similar art preferences as me. Should you go? Absolutely. Should you also know that there is more than one Tate art museum so you don't end up at the one you didn't originally want to go to? Also yes. Even if you end up there by mistake, you will find a lot to enjoy. The museum has a wonderful restaurant with a variety of offerings. It also has a lovely gift shop.

The Tate Modern combines contemporary art with a unique riverside setting and a layout that encourages exploration. Many areas of the museum are free to access, making it easy to move between the Turbine Hall, the upper floors and several gallery spaces, while selected exhibitions require a ticket. The mix creates a flexible and welcoming atmosphere for different types of visits. During the day the museum is lively, with several school groups and guided tours contributing to the rhythm of the space. Despite the activity, circulation remains smooth thanks to wide corridors, clear signage and multiple viewpoints that allow visitors to pause and observe. The terrace offers an impressive panorama over the Thames, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London skyline, adding a memorable element to the experience. The combination of architecture, public areas and changing installations makes the Tate Modern one of London’s most rewarding cultural stops.

From the outside, the building looked very brown and industrial, and honestly it didn’t excite me enough to want to go in. When I did go inside, it was exactly what I expected — classic modern art, which is just not my thing at all. That said, the inside is very big and spacious, and I can see why people enjoy walking around there. It didn’t feel cramped, and there were quite a few shops as well, which was probably the most enjoyable part for me. Overall, it’s impressive in size and layout, but content-wise it confirmed that modern art just isn’t for me. I’m glad I went once, but I wouldn’t rush back.
