The Balmoral Edinburgh

Our son booked us a 2 night stay in the Balmoral for our 30th wedding anniversary and oh my what a fabulous stay we had. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the staff couldn't do enough for us. From the door porter to the all the reception crew, the way we were treated we honestly felt like we were the most important people in the hotel and we were even given a free upgrade to an executive room which was lovely. After giving us an extremely early check in (around 10:30 am) we were taken to our room by one of the porters who insisted on taking our bags for us which was nice. The room was absolutely luxurious, extremely spacious with a huge bed. The huge bathroom was also immaculate. The hotel itself is so luxurious, from the reception area to the bar/restaurant and the amazing Palm Court tea room. Unfortunately we didn't have time to experience the Palm Court as we had other plans but will definitely use it when we return. We used the Bar Prince on a couple of occasions and once again all the staff we encountered were so professional, friendly, polite and immaculately turned out. Over the years years me and my wife have stopped at some lovely hotels around the world but we can honestly say that our experience at the Balmoral was the best we've ever had. We we're so sad when we had to check out but we will definitely be returning to this wonderful hotel in the beautiful city. A huge thank you to Andrew McPherson and his team for making our stay so memorable.

Popped in for a quick lunch between train journeys. Greeted with a lovely concierge service that took care of our cases. Headed to the brassiere for the set menu lunch which was good value for money and really tasty. Wish we could have stayed longer. Amazing staff and service. Thank you.

Can’t beat the location. Close to the mall, royal mile, and trams. Rooms were immaculate The service was impeccable. Came back to my room and they folded the clothes that was on the ground. Tidied up our cords and provided cord wraps for us. In the evening they provided turn down service, refilled waters/ whatever we needed. The teatime was wonderful, delicious and staff was kind and warm.

Lovely hotel centrally located in Edinburgh. Spotless. Elegant. Staff was exceptionally courteous and efficient. Had to leave early due to incoming storm threatening our exit flight. Gave six hours notice but had to pay for the last day per their cancellation policy. Would’ve appreciated the courtesy of forgiving the last day considering the circumstances. Nonetheless, would stay there again on our next trip to Edinburgh

Overall not a bad hotel, however, if staying in the high season I do not see the value for the price. There are plenty of other hotels in the city that are better value. Pros The hotel location is central. The front desk staff and the restaurant team were great. Good check in experience and first night at the hotel. The room was nicely decorated and clean. Cons Noise level extreme, if there are events being held in the hotel with loud music. There was a wedding going on and we could hear music past 12:00 a.m., in our room more than 3 floors up -disappointing given how much you are paying. Likewise, the first room we were in had an adjoining room door in it with extremely noisy when other guests moved into the room beside us - again at the price you are paying this is disappointing. ( I will give credit to the front desk team as I called and they moved us to a different room pretty quickly). Some staff were really great, however customer service was mixed and not consistent. Garbage was left by the elevator for 2 days without being cleaned and a robe in the room had dark brown residue on it. Recommendation If you would like to stay here, perhaps stay during the week and in down season, for a quieter experience.
