We stayed for 7 days and absolutely loved it. The staff went out of their way to help in any way. The bar downstairs was so welcoming and homely, we just loved sitting next to the fire while it was raining and cold, outside. Brilliant central location. Very comfortable rooms, and beautiful linen. Very attractive and well appointed bathrooms. Generally loved our stay! We would love to return.

Very nice bedroom—everything is meticulously arranged for the guest’s convenience, right down to the placement of the sockets. The mattress is one of the best I can remember, and the shower is also outstanding—both real compliments from me as a frequent traveller. The room is compact, but has everything a family might need. For business travellers, it’s worth noting there isn’t a desk in the room. The location couldn’t be better: supermarkets, good restaurants, bus stops, banks, huge bookshops, and Balliol College (one of Oxford’s oldest) are all just a few minutes’ walk away.

This hotel is unbeatable for its charm and location. You are in a very historic and charming place and you can feel it. The hotel is well staffed and maintained. Our rooms exceeded our expectations in terms of space and layout. It was like staying at your grandma's house. It isn't a modern place but the furniture is in good condition. The beds were super comfy and cozy. The Malin & Goertz bath products are phenomenal. The front desk was very helpful and even secured us a later check out to give us extra time to transition back home. It was so appreciated. We had purchased the half board package and ended up having a nice dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant, the Alice. We had a nice drink in the drawing room and it really set a festive mood. We look forward to coming back some day.

This hotel has real vintage charm and a historic vibe — exactly what you’d expect (and want) when staying in Oxford. The location is very convenient, and it’s an easy walk from Oxford train station, even with rolling suitcases. We were greeted by Ankita at reception and ended up having some lovely conversations with her — it’s always special to meet someone from close to home when you’re thousands of kilometers away. She mentioned she’s getting married soon, and we wish her a big congratulations! We have Hilton Diamond status, but booked a standard room via Amex Hotel Collection and were pleasantly upgraded to a suite. The room itself was simply wow. Having a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine made mornings even better 😄 . Housekeeping was daily, including Christmas and Boxing Day, which we really appreciated. The only downside was the room temperature. Something seemed off with the central system, and the team provided individual heaters. That affected our sleep a bit, but otherwise the stay was very comfortable. One small detail I loved — the room key cards are designed like college ID cards of famous Oxford alumni. Mine had J.R.R. Tolkien on it, and I really wanted to keep it as a souvenir… completely forgot. Maybe next time!

My friend and I came here last night. We dressed up nicely and spent a lot of money on our cocktails. I guess we don’t ’fit in’ because the staff were awful to us. We were ushered into the Drawing Room, but 20 minutes passed before anyone stopped to serve us (despite us trying to flag down the servers and them serving other patrons). Eventually, we gave up trying to flag anyone down and went to the bar. We asked to order and the bartender sighed heavily and said ‘I guess’. We ordered our cocktails, sat back and the table, and within 5 minutes a server came up and said ‘you need to leave, we are closing the room.’ We asked if we could finish our drinks and they said no, we needed to move right away. We moved to the lobby to finish our drinks, it was completely full and we had nowhere to put our coats. We stood by the bar, where there was a slight gap between trays. However, the server started to clear other people’s drinks, stacked them between my friend and I so high that we couldn’t even speak to each other. We quickly finished our drinks and left. The message was clear, we were not welcome. We have been to other nice places in Oxford and never been treated like this. To top it off, there was a 12.5% service charge, but I would have rather paid to not have any service at all. I’ve included the photo to verify we were there, the drinks were nice, so 2* instead of 1*
