Great hotel in stunning grounds. Staff very helpful, especially David who managed to move us to a room nearer the lift and reception. Only downside is the hotel itself is like a maze and all bedroom corridors are decorated the same so easy to get lost. More signage for lifts and stairs would have been helpful.

This is on a beautiful property with many rooms for staying. We came in with our tour group and stayed 3 nights here. The accommodations were nice and the reception staff took care of us. The dining staff on the first night kept us from eating there again though, at least at night. I’m not sure what was going on but we had trouble getting sat for supper at the more kid friendly restaurant on the property until the GM of the hotel himself stepped in and the serving staff was stretched really thin to where we walked down the hall for our own drinks after waiting 20 minutes. The food was great which definitely saved the overall experience. The rooms were comfortable and great for families.

You know that saying, 'the fence is nicely painted on the outside, but inside there's a leopard'? Beautiful building, stunning golf courses and grounds, but the level of service leaves much to be desired. I stayed there for a few nights in early May and still haven’t received the invoice, despite requesting it repeatedly, as the trip was paid for by my company. Considering that the company managing this hotel is based in the British Virgin Islands, I imagine they’re not too bothered about issuing an invoice every now and then.

Not for me. It's a beautiful old building, but it has been substantially extended, hard to say when, sometime in the last 40 years? to cope with visitors who want to play golf. Didn't enjoy breakfast (buffet type breakfast ) £35.00 taxi journey to the centre of Edinburgh. Staff were excellent, friendly, polite and very helpful.

We arrived, gentleman in front being checked in, there were two on reception one dealing with his check in, no acknowledgment at all second one saw us waiting, expected I’ll be with you as soon as I can, no, phone rang someone wanting to book a table, she rang the restaurant no answer she left the desk to go to restaurant surely customer service is people in front of you, returns no apologies. We were only ones there who’s next!!!!! That was our first impression. Hotel is in a lovely setting very quiet peaceful which is why we booked for mini break to go see Edinburgh. The grounds speak for it. Unfortunately online it shows use of pool doesn’t say you can only use at certain times as swimming lessons etc going on. Room crammed with furniture, sink massive crack and chipped bath. Mattress open coil so back ache neck ache. Fridge warm. We didn’t eat in restaurant as overpriced £30 for rump steak. We had scampi in bar that was it scampi chips no peas or salad. We ate in brasserie we booked in the morning and were accommodated. When we left we said thank you and one of the three standing at the entrance said catch you later!!!! There were many people turned away as couldn’t accommodate them!!!!! We were woken at 11.45 by fire alarm we left the room shoeless with pjs on we walked towards point mentioned on back of door but instead told to go to carpark hardly anyone there….. staff complete chaos no idea what they were doing all told it was false alarm couldn’t go back in till fire engine arrived. No wonder not many there they all came out fully clothed with bags and phones…… No apology, no typed apology on board next day. I’ve read previous comment it happened to them staff were making toast !!!! Breakfast don’t pay extra go somewhere else. Hardly any continental. Favourite bit the cooked buffet where do we start, cold whatever time you turn up, very greasy. You can though order eggs when sit down to order tea coffee hopefully it’s not stewed and you get the coffee!!! There is a coffee machine though. So catch 22 do you order eggs then get breakfast other bits or wait for eggs to arrive then get rest of what you want either way it’s cold as plates are cold. Juice very sugary. Staff acknowledged you if you acknowledged them first. Over priced £800+ for 3 nights, now funnily enough you can have free night if book 3 and rate reduced by over £100 we booked months ago should have read more reviews for what you get will not recommend. We have stayed at places the same price range before this must be lowered to 2 maybe
