If you're looking for the Ritz, go stay at the Ritz and pay for the Ritz. I stay at hotels all the time for work and this Holiday Inn is one of the nicest Holiday Inns I have stayed at. Our room was comfortable and updated. The bathroom is small but expected for being in Europe. It was clean and completely acceptable. The lobby area is updated and welcoming. The fitness room is great with all the equipment needed for a decent workout. The breakfast is wonderful and worth the extra we paid for it. I read reviews that the restaurant food is great and that is accurate. Whoever is running that restaurant and making the food is doing a great job. The food is excellent! The pool and hot tub are ok but better than not having anything. The bus stop is right outside and takes you into town in about 20 minutes.....so convenient. A family day pass is 12£ (2 adults, 3 children). If you want a nice place to stay with good food but you don't want to pay the prices of being downtown, this is the place for you.

This was definitely my favorite hotel to stay at while I traveled Scotland and if I came back to Edinburgh I would definitely stay here again. The hotel staff are very professional, helpful and friendly. The rooms themselves are very nice, clean and have everything that a guest needs. There's several bus stops right in front of the hotel that go on different routes so traveling to other areas in Edinburgh is very convenient. I recommend trying out their breakfast which is an all you can style buffet. The hotel's right next to the zoo but I never heard any noises from it. It was an excellent experience. Thank you very much to the hotel staff.

Really had a good time at this hotel. Rooms were nice and clean, only a couple of old stains on carpets here and there but nothing major. A decent enough swimming pool, a well equipped gym and a proper sauna were a good extra touch. The bar/restaurant looks great, drinks weren’t too expensive for a hotel and food was delicious. Loses two star for serving Starbucks coffee

During our recent stay at the Holiday Inn Edinburgh, we had quite a mixed experience. When we first arrived, the bathroom in our room was in poor condition, with damage to the toilet ledge, cracks, and visible water damage around the bath. The staff were very apologetic and quickly moved us to another room, which was much better. The following day, after housekeeping had changed the beds, we found a curry stain on the duvet cover and what looked like a maggot, which thankfully turned out to be a piece of onion. Once again, the staff responded promptly, apologised, and changed the bedding. They also offered a complimentary bottle of water and some fruit as a goodwill gesture, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, breakfast the next morning was also disappointing — the food was cold, and I even found a small piece of polystyrene in my haggis. While the staff once again handled the situation efficiently, these repeated issues really affected our overall experience. The hotel itself looks modern and has a lovely appearance, and the staff were consistently polite and helpful. However, the cleanliness, room maintenance, and food standards definitely need more attention. Sadly, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

Only good for the location really. 2 adults and 2 kids but they hadn't made up the beds for the kids. So some randomer came up to do it while we were in the room after we'd complained. And I say randomer, because the other two staff who tried to get involved said "Are you housekeeping?" Which was a bit unnerving! Also, he just let himself in the room without knocking (we didn't know when they were coming). All a bit weird. Reception apologised afterwards. Even without that, the rooms were dated and mouldy over ceiling, curtain, sink, bath etc. to be expected with a high footfall popular hotel but still not great. Restaurant was ok but waiter spilled a drink after trying to pass it to me. Other staff brought us the wrong drinks. However, location for the zoo (and getting into central Edinburgh) it was literally next door, which was great, and we had a great time, which was the whole point of staying here. Excellent if you're doing that and just stopping the night.
