The building first opened its doors to the public in 2014, and its location immediately adjacent to one of London’s attractions, the Tower of London. The design of the building acknowledges the site’s original use as a set of docks for unloading tobacco and other cargo arriving from the West Indies. In contrast to the relative calm of the River Thames we experience today, as recently as the mid-20^th century this was a busy industrial area.
