Dynamic Earth is Edinburgh’s world-class Science Centre and Planetarium, telling the epic story of planet earth from beginning to mend.

At the foot of a volcano in the historic city of Edinburgh lies Dynamic Earth, the UK’s leading earth science centre. Our immersive, interactive and impactful visitor experience takes you on a journey through the story of our extraordinary planet, from beginning to mend. Be there at the moment of the Big Bang, rocket through the universe billions of times faster than the speed of light, feel the effects of a real volcano, get closer to understanding the polar ice caps by touching our iceberg, stare in wonder at the Aurora Borealis, watch powerful glaciers carve out entire continents, dive to the dark depths of the ocean, and avoid rainstorms in our tropical rainforest. In the 90-minute interactive walk-through and planetarium experience you’ll discover millions of years of evolution from the big bang to the challenges of the present day.

This was a fantastic day out. We loved how the place takes you on a 'journey' through time. Each room is very different to the last. All the staff were enthusiastic and friendly. It was well worth a visit! Tickets are slightly cheaper online. Take note of the times for the planetarium shows.

This is a brilliant place, so much to see and do! Very well done, you can’t go wrong! Staff are amazing, helpful and knowledgeable. A fantastic day out. We pre booked, and also parked there. Food was great too! 👌🏻

A must visit. The staff were excellent, everyone were very helpful and engaging. The planetarium show 'You are here' was very good. The lady who presented it did a great job.

I highly recommend visiting Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh for a fun and educational family day out! It’s an amazing place where both kids and adults can learn about the history of our planet through interactive exhibits, stunning visuals, and engaging activities. The staff are friendly and the whole experience is really well organized. Perfect for a family trip – everyone will enjoy it!

A striking, white-tented structure by the architects of the Eden Project, housing a journey through Earth's 4.5-billion-year history via a series of immersive, theatrical exhibits. It's an ambitious, narrative-driven experience more akin to an educational theme park ride than a traditional museum. Dynamic Earth is a flawed but fun institution. It excels at making vast geological time accessible and exciting for children, but its aging technology and rigid format let it down for older audiences. It's a solid 4-star rainy-day family activity, but a 2-star attraction for adults or teens seeking a contemporary, interactive science centre. Go for the kids, not for yourself. If your children are under 5 or over 15, your money and time are likely better spent elsewhere.
