Giggling Squid Oxford

Giggling squid is one of our go to places to eat when we’re out and about. Their Oxford branch didn’t disappoint we were greeted by Hannah and seated straight away without a booking even though they were quite busy. Our drinks order was taken straight away while we studied the menu. We had veggie spring rolls to start, Samui seafood and veggie massaman curry with jasmine rice washed down with a bottle of Chang lager. All was very tasty and served with a smile. My husband & I came to your Oxford restaurant on 14th February 2026. It was our first ever visit we were greeted on arrival and taken to our reserved table. It was a very busy night but our waitress Niamh was exceptional. She was attentive, knowledgeable, smiley and funny. Nothing was too much trouble and was very apologetic when the dish my husband chose wasn’t available, but she recommended another dish that he thoroughly enjoyed. Superb experience and Niamh deserves recognition for her outstanding customer service

I've never been before but did on a friend's recommendation, they were right! Excellent service staff were brilliant, the atmosphere was perfect, cocktails were delicious and food was fantastic. We'll be back!

I’ve eaten at many Thai restaurants around the world, and in my experience it’s actually quite difficult to find truly bad Thai food. Unfortunately, our visit to Giggling Squid in Oxford was very disappointing. We ordered a Thai green chicken curry and a Thai red beef curry. The flavours were acceptable, but entirely unremarkable. The real issue, however, was the portion size. Each curry contained just four small pieces of meat and was made up predominantly of potato and sauce. The lack of protein was striking and left the dishes feeling unbalanced and unsatisfying. When our server asked whether we had enjoyed the meal, we explained our concerns about the minimal amount of meat. To his credit, he appeared concerned and said he would check with the kitchen. He later returned to inform us that four pieces of meat per curry was the standard portion. That response was disappointing, as it confirmed that what we received was not an anomaly but normal practice. Given that the curries were priced at £18 and £19 respectively, with rice costing an additional £4.50, the meal represented extremely poor value for money. For those prices, one would reasonably expect more generous and better-balanced portions. The only thing tasty thing about the meal was the price of the drinks, i.e., £8.25 for a 620 ml bottle of Chang beer. I’m genuinely surprised that reviews of this restaurant are generally so favourable. After our experience, I can’t help but feel like the child pointing out that the emperor has no clothes.
