Wow...We stayed for the Radiohead exhibition as Christmas gift from my wife. Amazing hotel, we upgraded to cell 119 😊 and so happy we did. Warm, cosy, clean room with everything we needed. All staff were helpful and everything we needed was dealt with. We were allowed our room early, the car was parked for us and everything was taken care of. The evening meal was superb and breakfast was delightful. We will be back in the summer to explore beautiful Oxford in warmer weather.

At the very last minute, my daughter and I needed somewhere warm to stay after an unfortunate experience with a local letting agency. Malmaison Oxford was right across the street, so I booked it literally minutes before we walked through the door. I’ll admit, I had my reservations about staying in an old prison — having visited Alcatraz, I half-expected bad vibes — but my daughter was excited, and we were both pleasantly surprised. The staff were immediately kind and understanding. They noticed I was with a child and upgraded us to a slightly larger room, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The room was spotless, modern, and, most importantly, warm — exactly what we needed that night. The hotel’s design embraces its history without feeling gimmicky. You definitely know you’re in a former jail, but in a fun, stylish way rather than a spooky one. My daughter thought it was hilarious, and I found it genuinely interesting and well executed. The next morning, after a long call dealing with the unheated rental situation, we ran down to breakfast late — well past closing time. I expected a polite “sorry, breakfast is over,” but instead, one of the staff members went out of his way to make us tea, coffee, pastries, and fruit, insisting we sit and relax. That small act of kindness meant the world to us. All in all, Malmaison Oxford turned what had been a stressful situation into something unexpectedly uplifting. Warm, clean, modern, and run by genuinely compassionate staff — I’d absolutely recommend it. Unless, of course, you’ve actually done time… in which case, it might feel a bit too authentic!

My wife booked us a night for my birthday in one of the junior suites. The room was clean and had everything that we could of asked for. A slice of carrot cake with a happy birthday message and a bottle of champagne were also a very nice touch and not something we had asked for. So thank you very much for that. The restaurant is extremely good. I highly recommend eating there should you be staying there. I'd also like to add a huge thank you to all the staff there, I can't write all of the names as I'd be going on forever. But you all made the stay that much better. Thank you again for a lovely night away for my birthday and it's definitely one that I will always remember.

We had a lovely stay at Malmaison Oxford and really enjoyed the atmosphere, comfort, and location of the hotel. The room was clean and well presented, and the hotel itself has great character and charm, making our visit to Oxford even more enjoyable. A special thank you to Callum at reception, who truly stood out. He was extremely friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. With many restaurants closed, he took the time to help us secure a reservation, explained nearby places to visit, and guided us clearly on timings and locations. His local knowledge and willingness to help made a big difference to our stay. Excellent hotel and outstanding customer service — thank you, Callum.

We stayed a couple of weeks ago for 2 nights. Personally, as beautiful as it looks I do think it is lacking in some areas. The room wasn't as clean as I expected, skirting boards was dusty and so was the tea tray, there was also marks on the carpet and very dirty around the carpet edges, it was lacking a good hoover with the pipe around the edges of the room. In the bathroom the cupboard door behind the toilet kept coming open exposing all the pipe work, a bit dangerous if you didn't realise the door had come open and stood up from using the toilet! The lighting was also poor in the room and didn't quite make sense, for example, if you wanted the desk lamp on you had to turn it on by the bed?! The aircon/heating is a nice touch, however this kept turning off so we would come back to our room and it was freezing or we would wake in the night and morning cold. We used the onsite parking, checked in and then she said we needed to pay after I had put everything away. I paid then carried on with our break as normal. On check out they said we had only been charged for night so needed to take payment again! No problem, I tapped my card he said all was fine. We went to wait for the car for him to shout across "your card has declined!" A little embarrassing in a lobby full of people! What he should of said was "could you come back and pop your pin in" being as that is what was required! I certainly did not find that professional! On a positive note, the bed, pillows and quilt was very nice and comfortable
