Afternoon Tea at Jean-Georges restaurant in London puts a playful, contemporary twist on this time-honoured British tradition. Allow us to whisk you away on a sensational journey through taste and texture in the heart of London city centre – with a few unexpected surprises along the way.

Jean-Georges at The Connaught sets a bright and lively scene for an Afternoon Tea with a twist. The experience begins the moment you step into this stylish neighbourhood restaurant in Mayfair. Curated art from Louise Bourgeois adorns the walls and floor to ceiling windows, with their stained-glass accents by Jean-Michel Othoniel, give you the perfect vantage point to watch the world of Mayfair go by. Then, it’s time to open the menu – its playful illustrations by Jean Jullien hinting at the bold flavours and witty surprises soon to unfold…

Begin your taste adventure as you discover a selection of exotic teas – or, a glass of champagne, if you want to add some sparkle to the afternoon. Then it’s on to the finger sandwiches, where classic British combinations meet Jean-Georges’ passion for bold South East-Asian flavours. Think cucumber with a hint of mint, oak smoked salmon, and turkey and tandoori yoghurt in Mediterranean bread, all home-made daily.

For a touch of tradition, their cakes are accompanied by English scones prepared to a time-honoured recipe. These are served warm from the oven, ready for spreading with Cornish clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam.

Few sounds are more reminiscent than freshly-brewed tea being poured into a china cup. But what are you in the mood for? Keep things traditional with fragrant black teas such as Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Assam. Or explore their artisan green teas from small plantations in Japan and China, such as fuji-yama, jasmine pearls and the subtle vanilla tones of Thé à l’Opéra. And if you like your tea soothingly theine-free, there is fresh mint, chamomile, canorino or mild, flowery rooibos red to enjoy.

Opening times are for Afternoon Tea only, but for other bookings check website for restaurant times.

Really enjoyed dinner here, sadly don't have a picture of the lamb chops but they were cooked and seasoned to perfection and couldn't recommend them enough. Our favourite starters were the crispy salmon bites aabd the tuna tartare. Service is great here as you'd expect and if you go for a drink at any of the Connaught's bars they are happy to move your drinks and tab with you.

I hate writing this, but if management reads these, I think you should pay attention here! Your restaurant is beautiful and has nice views out the windows. The wine list is extensive, your menu looks great, and your team tries to provide great service. You have everything it takes to be great, but you're simply not. Highlights: your somm Veronica is truly exceptional, so is her colleague from France, but I did not get his name sadly. She made our visit one to remember. Talked openly about wines she loves, educated us, made us feel like family. She is your greatest asset currently. He also did a great job and let us try another dessert wine that he wanted to contrast with what we were drinking. Drinks and wines by the glass were great, food is good but not exceptional. Dining room is really pretty and nicely lit. Our server could not have been nicer, but he was clearly new at this and a bit out of his league. I realize we dined on a Monday night, but you should never have your B-team on site for dinner at a place with your reputation. Lowlights: Without any discussion of the menu and prior to us even receiving our drinks or any bread, the server asked "are you ready to order", I was honestly a bit taken aback! You did not give us any thoughts about the menu or ask if we had questions, nothing to help us along here. This was a big miss. Amuse came out and it was excellent, did not even clear that plate and our appetizers were delivered. Never bring food to the table before clearing the last course, this is common knowledge and far inferior restaurants do this better than you did. It also immediately made me feel rushed. Server trying to get our order quickly, then food showing up rapid fire. I had to ask for the entree to be slowed down and the server said he would wait 5-10 minutes to put it in. 25-30 minutes later he comes back and asks if he can fire our entrees? In my mind, I'm thinking we already agreed to this and I don't work here so don't bring me issues. Just do what we discussed, not hard. Finally, when your restaurant has few diners on a Monday night, don't seat all the customers next to each other. You seated 2 different parties of 2 across from us when there were 10 other tables you could have put them at. It created a bottleneck in that hallway and people were having trouble getting through there. Rookie mistake by the people who seat your customers, think it through, space people out, create a bit of privacy. I don't think we will be back, but we did enjoy certain aspects of the experience. Again, our server was very personable but is not ready for the job due to you not training him on what excellent service looks like. Thanks again to both Somms, they made it worth being there! It would have been a 3 star review otherwise.

We came for high tea and thoroughly enjoyed the service, ambience and scones. The sandwiches were dry and tea selection/taste very average - surprisingly as one would expect perfection knowing that high tea for 2 (we didn’t have the alcohol) cost 200£. Overall an interesting experience but wouldn’t be rushing back.

⸻ Shockingly rude service at Jean-Georges at The Connaught Hotel. We cancelled our lunch reservation, called to confirm, and were told outdoor tables were walk-in only so no need to rebook. When we arrived, the hostess coldly said we could only stay for one hour. The staff rushed us, brought the bill without asking, and told us to leave — even though the terrace was almost empty and no one came to take those tables after we left. We had already reached the minimum spend, yet they still added a £24 service charge. When we asked for its removal, they sneakily replaced it with a “cover charge” for the exact same amount and suddenly raised the minimum spend from £60 to £65. The manager was arrogant, dismissive, and claimed he was “doing us a favor” by letting us sit at all. For a restaurant in such a prestigious hotel, this level of unprofessionalism and disrespect is shocking.

We visited this restaurant on August 12th at 3:00 PM. We used to come here often, even though we had faced many inconveniences in the past. But today, we decided to give it another chance because we really wanted to enjoy their pizza, shrimp salad, and a nice coffee afterward. When we arrived, they seated us directly under the sun. We politely asked for another table, explaining that we would eat quickly and leave. The manager — the tall one wearing a grey jacket, who is often rude to others — bluntly said there were no other tables and insisted we return the table immediately. Honestly, it felt like we were begging to be there! Excuse me, but we are paying customers, not here for a free meal. Most of the tables were actually available, but it seemed like he wanted us to do something “extra” in order to receive better treatment. I took my friend and left the restaurant. This place is clearly losing its guests day after day, and its reputation is becoming terrible. I will never come back again, and I will make sure to tell my friends and family the same. My advice: train your staff in proper hospitality — it is far more important than the food itself.
