The Edinburgh Dungeon is a 70-minute, interactive walk-through experience using live actors, theatrical sets, spectacular special effects and thrilling rides to bring 1000 years of Edinburgh and Scottish history to life. One of the top Edinburgh Attractions you must visit.

A few of the gruesome characters you can meet at The Edinburgh Dungeon  include:

How will you plead? Guilty? Or VERY guilty?

Enter our dingy, 17th century Edinburgh courtroom and prepare to be judged for your heinous crimes! Our Judge Mental will either find you guilty or… VERY GUILTY!

The only question that matters is just what are you guilty of?

Are you a witch or just plain drunk? Guilty of having a baldy heid or for being from Dundee? Get into that dock and be prepared for your punishment!

Meet Agnes Finnie, Edinburgh’s baddest witch!

You are now entering the Witch Pricker’s interrogation chamber at The Edinburgh Dungeon, here you’ll come face to face with Agnes Finnie – accused of witchcraft in 1645. She’s mad, she’s bad, she’s not to be messed with! But are you a witch too? Protect yourself from accusations of sinister sorcery or you might be burned alive! Let’s face it, nobody wants a human barbecue…

You now find yourself in the home of incarceration, humiliation and pain.

Suspected witches won’t get away easily – the Torturer is VERY good at their job and always looking for ‘volunteers’’ to test their implements on.  Preferably up that place where the sun don’t shine… and they don’t mean Glasgow!

Well done! You’ve found Sawney Bean’s Family. Unfortunately, it’s been a while since they last ate and you look delicious…

It’s the 16th century and you find yourself creeping through the Bean clan’s foul-smelling lair to discover the leftovers of lost travellers. Have the hunters become the hunted? Will you escape, or become the cannibal’s next fresh meat?

You’ve made it to the Grassmarket and a crowd has gathered to see you pay for your sins…

Lucky you! Your executioner will show you the ‘ropes’.

The crowd cheers and it’s your turn to face the drop. The noose is ready as are the judge, priest and executioner. The thrilling gravity-defying drop marks the scary fun end to your Dungeon journey!

FAQ's

HOW LONG DO TOURS LAST?

The tours last approximately 75 minutes no matter what time you enter. This is excluding queuing times which may vary.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the timeslot shown on your ticket. Or else.

WHAT'S THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

Good question. We love a dark Halloween night ourselves, but for the rest of the year, there’s just one thing you need to remember. Like any amazingly funny, brilliantly designed and (haha) executed attraction…we are very popular. Our guests love us and tend to come back time and time again...

Brilliant jump scare experience! 1st time there, brought my 13 year old too for a wee afternoon out. It certainly was an animated and interactive history lesson about Edinburgh. Actors were authentic, the darkness was very dark and it was made better by interacting with the personalities on the tour. Brilliant, would def go back.

We've been to so many dungeons now and we're so excited to add Edinburgh to the list! Not many photos because you're not allowed to snap pics but it was fab. The acting was great, the props fantastic, some cool jump scares, and it felt like we'd walked for miles. The gift shop had some unique bits in there as well. Would definitely say add it to your dungeon experience

On my first visit to Edinburgh, I decided to give this a try. I went into the Edinburgh Dungeon as a solo, not knowing much about it. They add you to a group that will go through the dungeon together, experiencing a story along the way. You'll get lots of laughs even as a solo, but with others, this will be an even better experience. I recommend this for solos/duos and groups of people. All the actors/actresses were brilliant. The set design was very cool and totally worth the experience. Certain areas were very immersive, which I won't share as this would ruin the experience for you. Overall, I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a little horror in their lives. For comparison, it's not as scary as scare parks or scare houses in Canada, but I honestly liked this more as the story with actors was amazing. Give it a try if you enjoy horror and want to experience a unique time.
