I recently visited Head of the River with a group of seven and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. I initially booked for the wrong date but was so glad I reached out to request a river view seat, the team kindly amended our booking, and we enjoyed a beautiful sunny spot with a stunning view. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating, making sure all our requests were met with a smile. The food was excellent too!!! I had the roast lamb, which was perfectly cooked, tender enough to fall off the bone, and paired with a rich, flavorful gravy. Overall, it was a lovely visit, and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

We had lunch here on a Saturday. The place filled up really quickly with all tables busy by the time we left. We popped by without a reservation and I think we were very lucky to have given a table. Prices are reasonable with main courses costing between 15 and 20 pounds. Service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. The dishes tasted good, but weren't outstanding. Toilets were clean.

Been here a few times over the years, booked a dinning patio table online, was quick and easy process. As there are different levels for outside dining and drinks. Love sitting out overlooking the river when the sun is out. Food was presented well and very tasty, a little on the expensive side, but I guess that's down to location. Service was good and our waitress was very friendly.

Beautiful setting next to the river with large outdoor area to enjoy under benches and parasols. Went there on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Very crowded, but our group of 4 managed to get a table near the water after a short wait. Ordered Sunday lunch. Enjoyed it, but expensive for what was on the plate (especially after they add the 12.5% gratuity). Looked good at first glance but when you removed the large Yorkshire pudding there wasn't a lot of veg. Drinks were very expensive, but found them expensive everywhere in Oxford and the Cotswolds. Would still recommend this pub for the location alone.

The only good thing about this place is the location. Food was meh, extremely meh. Service was alright (especially this very nice young man), however sadly - i’d like to raise that there was this one extremely rude female staff that served us when we got the outside dining area table on Saturday evening 7pm 14th June. We ordered drinks from her. However ordered food from the QR core on the table - because 1) there’s a working QR code on the table with a line that say “scan the qr code to order”, 2) she didnt return after taking drinks order. Then she returned, my parents said theyve made the food order using QR code. She started getting pissed off and said you’ve ordered drinks from me, this is a serving area. My parents were like is this ok, and offered to rectify. She was like “no, its not ok” but then followed up with the order already came through so “there’s no point fixing”. So - it IS a problem, it is NOT ok, but “there’s no point fixing”? If there’s no point fixing why did she bother bring it up to the customers? Also, she could have been a lot nicer and more professional. That is NOT how you should talk to customers - we pay money to be there we dont beg for your food and services for free. Food came up, everything was meh. Then i found the inside of my chicken a bit pink. Not wanting to risk my weekend, i told the waitress (someone else, not the rude lady). She then said she’d bring my plate to the kitchen, and along her way she brought my plate to the rude lady, who then shrugged and smirked and said “ok” as if i was wrong for having an opinion about my own food. This isnt my first time here, i have been to this place every summer since i moved to Oxford years ago but im sure yesterday was my last time.
