Experience world famous whisky in Edinburgh, an attraction that every dad will enjoy. Get dad to enjoy the day out with a promise to visit The Scotch Whisky Experience, a five star visitor attraction at the top of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, where we’ve been inspiring visitors to Edinburgh about the joys of Scotch whisky for over 35 years.

The Scotch Whisky Experience sits at the top of Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile, right next door to Edinburgh Castle. They’re on a mission to make the world fall in love with Scotch whisky. Having first opened to the public in 1988, The Scotch Whisky Experience was created when 19 individual Scotch whisky companies jointly invested money towards showcasing the Scotch whisky industry to international visitors.

An interactive exhibition, not a working distillery, the Experience represents 90% of the Scotch whisky industry, making it the ideal first stop for whisky enthusiasts. They welcome around 300,000 visitors through the doors each year, 80% of whom are international.

The perfect journey through the world of Scotch whisky. We are storytellers; passionate about sharing with you our love for Scotch whisky and Scotland. Take one of our tours to widen your knowledge, explore flavours and create whisky memories. We were recently crowned The BEST VISITOR ATTRACTION at the National Scottish Thistle Awards. Book now and experience our award-winning tour!

The experience was excellent and very informative. The staff were warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived. My tour guide, Sylthe, was outstanding and made the tour truly enjoyable. I also had the pleasure of meeting some lovely people from Austin, Texas, which added to the experience. The whisky was smooth and well-balanced, not overly smoky, and very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this experience, particularly the Gold Tour. I visited on Sunday, 28th December, and after some travelling, I have only just had the opportunity to update this review.

Ever wonder how time and oak transform the 'spirit'... it was out of the world experience that brought plenty of 'wow' moments. The immersive story telling and good understanding shared by Euan, was extremely impressive. We enjoyed the tour with educational touch & plenty of fun. You must NOT give this a miss in Edinburgh. Head over to the restaurant Amber to enhance your palate paired with whiskey.

We had such great time yesterday at the Scotch Whisky Experience with my wife. We had the chance to have Maddie as a guide. The whole tour was fun, informative and full of surprises. You can see that Maddie was passionate about telling the stories and history. Through the tour not only we learned so much about whisky but also about Scotland. Amazing landscapes which truly made us want to come back to see more of your beautiful country. Finally I discovered that there was some type of whisky my wife could enjoy to her surprise and that, like Maddie, I was a "smoked-head" 😁. The whole team was really friendly and knowledgeable, the person has the entrance even taken the time to ask us about our experience and to give me a tip about a type of independent whisky I might find interesting to try. I recommend highly to anyone to get that experience. It's really worth it and will stay a great memory of our Edinburg escapade. Thanks to all the staff and specially to Maddie. 🙏

Hello thank you for Eloi for all attention for details of history and poetic explanation about whisky. Also he catches my tricky explanation about chivas regal :) i hope that he will continue to keep his happiness about his master class work and wishing him all the best. They have a wonderful shop for purchase the whisky and they have put a mark which is used in daily tastings. I bought three without any regret.

Our visit to The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh was nothing short of exceptional, and it all began with the warmest welcome from Ben, the amazing gentleman at the door. From the very first moment, his friendliness and genuine hospitality set the tone for what would be a truly memorable experience. The journey became even more captivating with our tour guide, Erik—a true whisky connoisseur and storyteller. His depth of knowledge about whisky making was impressive, but what made him stand out was how he delivered it. Erik didn’t just explain the process; he brought it to life. His enthusiasm, engaging storytelling, and natural charisma made the entire tour exciting and immersive. You could feel his passion in every word, turning information into an experience rather than just a lesson. The whisky-making journey itself was both educational and mysteriously fascinating. As we moved through each room, every step revealed another layer of wonder—from the purity of the water, to the humble barley, to the magic of yeast. Each element was explained with such clarity and intrigue that you couldn’t help but be drawn in. Watching the process unfold made you truly appreciate the craftsmanship, patience, and tradition behind every bottle of Scotch whisky. Every space we entered offered new knowledge and a sense of discovery. It wasn’t just about learning how whisky is made; it was about understanding the soul of Scotland’s most iconic spirit. I would highly recommend The Scotch Whisky Experience to anyone visiting Edinburgh—whether you’re a whisky lover or simply curious. With welcoming staff like Ben and an outstanding guide like Erik, this experience is informative, entertaining, and genuinely unforgettable. A true celebration of Scottish heritage, delivered with warmth, passion, and excellence 🥃 -Chef Cris
