Hotel

Vanbrugh House Hotel is a luxury hotel in Oxford located in the city centre. Being a Grade II listed building of historical significance, renovations cannot always be carried out in order to preserve the original structure. Expect unique quirks, such as creaky floorboards, narrow corridors and original features which all add to the charm and homely feel of our quintessentially English hotel.

Throughout Vanbrugh House Hotel, the boutique rooms and suites have been designed with a luxurious palette of subtle greys and whites, complemented with pops of colour and a mix of modern and traditional furniture.

Their beds are dressed in premier cotton linen to ensure a relaxing night’s sleep. And, as with most of the furniture, the bedframes were handmade in England to a bespoke specification.

Each room is named after a historical character or significant location related to Oxford’s fascinating past, with the backstory displayed on the bedroom wall. Vanbrugh House Hotel’s bespoke style is finely tuned with careful attention to detail, technology and round-the-clock service, so you can stay in a luxury hotel in Oxford.

Enhance your stay with a Breakfast Hamper, a basket filled with your choice from our selection of continental items from cured meats, creamy cheeses, and pastries to name a few, enjoy with a freshly brewed coffee or tea and juices. The hamper will be delivered for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own room.

Vanburgh House is a city centre hotel that’s walking distance to all Oxford’s attractions. Only 0.3 miles from the Castle & prison and 6 minutes from Westgate Shopping centre, making this hotel the perfect location to stay in Oxford.

Perfect location to explore Oxford. Minutes away from all the major colleges and other attractions. Very friendly staff who took the time to ask how our stay was going. Would recommend

We stayed two nights at Vanbrugh House Hotel. The hotel is in a fantastic location—right in the heart of everything, yet on a quiet street less than a 15-minute walk from the train station. As it's an old building, the layout is naturally a bit maze-like, and soundproofing isn’t always the best. Also rooms might be small. Our room faced the inner courtyard and was otherwise quiet, but the clatter of bottles being thrown into bins during cleaning at a nearby restaurant was extremely loud and woke us up at night. During our stay the construction site next to the hotel did not disturb us. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and hot water came instantly. There is no air condition. The staff were friendly. We didn’t have breakfast, so we can’t comment on its quality. This is a good hotel in the city center.

This hotel was somewhat disappointing. The location is exceptional, around the corner from everything you want to see. The staff is very kind and accommodating and they definitely made our stay pleasant. However the state of the hotel does not justify the price point. Firstly, the pictures shown online are not representative of what you will likely end up getting; an old, small room which at times felt a bit unclean. They photographed one nice room and that’s all you will see online of this hotel. The furniture is very old fashioned and needs to be replaced, the bed is small and with a hard mattress and very uncomfortable pillows. The room has multiple stains (even on the bed sheets) and a wallpaper that is peeling off. The bathroom shower doors are crusty, water pressure very low, multiple rusty spots everywhere. The building is pretty old, charming, however can get quite noisy in the room (though we did not particularly mind it). Good heating system and we had plenty of coffees, teas, cookies, lots of free waters too. The room has a smart tv which is also a nice plus. Unfortunately not worth the money and felt a bit scammed by the pictures online

The room was very noisy, you could hear everything outside and in the hotel late at night and early in the morning. They need better windows. The bed was very hard and not comfortable. The shower did not drain very well. The staff wasn't unfriendly but they weren't friendly and didn't seem to care how my stay was. I expected a lot better for the money I paid. We will be traveling to Oxford a lot in the next few years and we will not stay there again. The location was very central

The hotel's location is fantastic, but that is about it. We were put into what must have been their tiniest room, which was cramped, with the TV stand nearly toppling over. This bore no resemblance to the rooms in the photos for the type of room we booked, all of which appear to be larger, with more light and much better kept. The water pressure was nearly non-existent and the water tepid. The TV was technically "smart" but barely functioned and the remote was half-broken (you had to press the buttons extremely hard to get them to work). The hotel is rather pricey, and on top of that they have check-out early (11AM) and charge an extra £20 just to check out at midday. I would not stay here again.
