Our gorgeous, landmark Birmingham hotel was originally opened by Isaac Horton back in 1879 to designs by Thomson Plevins.  Since then, it’s welcomed royalty and rock stars and has been a hub in the city for meetings and networking as well as incredible events in our breath-taking Grand Ballroom.

Following a £50 million restoration and refurbishment, Birmingham’s original grande-dame hotel re-opened having been closed for almost 20 years. As the latest chapter in our history takes shape, we hope you will be a part of it, whether you are staying at the hotel, eating and drinking in our bars and restaurant, organising a meeting, or attending an event.

BEDROOMS & SUITES

From grand double and grand twin rooms to fabulous suites, there’s hotel accommodation for every occasion.

All of them have been beautifully designed with meticulous attention to detail and luxurious touchesfrom 300-thread-count bedlinen, handsprung mattresses and fluffy bathrobes to smart HDTVs, Nespresso machines, rain showers, and complimentary tea, coffee and mineral water. You’ll receive a Grand welcome and warm, friendly service throughout your stay: nothing is too much trouble.

FOOD & DRINK

Following the tradition of grand hotels with luxurious cocktail bars.

Madeleine’s double-height windows, sparkling chandeliers, and rich soft furnishings make it at once super-glamorous and utterly enticing. Bringing a slice of Parisian chic to the heart of Birmingham, Madeleine serves Champagne, cocktails and bar snacks that take their cue from France with a nod to the West Midlands as well as Madeleine’s signature afternoon tea.

Isaac’s is a neighbourhood restaurant with a New York vibe. Tucked around the corner and with its entrance on Barwick Street, Isaac’s is a new kid on the block that feels as if it’s been around for ever – a welcome addition, we hope, to Birmingham’s thriving restaurant scene.

One of the best hotels in Birmingham. Great location only minutes walk from Snow Hill station and in the centre of town. Room was spacious and pillows and bed were really comfortable. Iron, safe, gown included. Semi skimmed milk in fridge which meant proper tea and coffee! Bathroom has Penhaligons toiletries. Breakfast was amazing. Cold continental buffet and hot options à la carte with a twist, eg, Hash Brown Eggs Benedict. Only negative is my room was cold the second night and the heating wouldn’t stay on. Staff were helpful though and brought up a heater. Half price parking at B4 parking - about 8 mins walk away. Just need to log number plate at reception. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed a really fantastic one-night stay at The Grand Hotel Birmingham. The building itself is beautiful - tastefully restored - and I really like how there’s artwork throughout the hotel. Our room (425) was comfortable - had a good shower, nice bed, coffee maker and was totally silent. The gym is fairly small but did the job. Breakfast was served in Isaac’s - such a gorgeous space - and had a range of cooked-to-order and self-serve items. Delicious smoothies too. Service was really friendly. Location was great. Very good value. A super hotel - thank you so much!

Had a delicious afternoon tea this afternoon. The hotel itself is stunning, and the bar is a gorgeous space, we were seated at a lovely table with big comfy armchairs. The tea selection was great and every tea we tried was delicious. The food was outstanding and plentiful. The service was ok, the waiting staff did what was necessary, but were just not very warm, friendly or attentive. This is why I was slightly annoyed at being automatically charged 12.5% service charge.

I’ve always loved the grand for cocktails and pre dinner drinks. The ambience is beautiful and they offer a great range of cocktails and champagnes by the glass. However our most recent visit highlighted a drop in the attentiveness of the staff towards patrons. We were not met at the door or shown to a table. We ordered drinks but had to remind the staff and waited for 15 minutes despite it not being busy. Shame really that the level of personal attention has dropped.

This is a beautiful, comfortable hotel in a wonderful location. I had very pleasant interactions with staff and had no problem with any individual at all. BUT their systems are NOT good. The first sign of a problem was that I never received a confirmation email for my expensive 3-night booking. I ended up booking twice because I thought I must not have booked it. I sorted it out after a lengthy phone call, but I never, at any point received an automatic email. This is clearly a huge problem. Then there were a few other minor issues. The room wasn't ready when we arrived and our check in was delayed for nearly an hour. We did get a voucher for the bar while we waited, but ...not ideal. There were a few issues with getting our room cleaned completely in good time. The breakfast in Isaac's was expensive and clearly not freshly prepared (arrived in 3 minutes and was tepid). And finally, and very importantly, the WiFi was genuinely terrible. I was so glad we weren't trying to conduct any important video calls or stream anything work-related because I don't know how it would have worked. So overall, I think these are management-level issues that need attention before I would be happy to stay there again. If these are sorted, everything would be genuinely wonderful.
